DR. RAMI JOSEPH ELKHECHEN M.D.

Rami Joseph Elkhechen M.D. is a Fellowship trained Sports Medicine Orthopaedic Surgeon at Orthopaedic Care Specialists. He is an active member of Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA) and American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM). He is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon recognized by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.

Dr. Elkhechen grew up in Boca Raton, FL where he began his education by graduating from Atlantic Community High School in Delray Beach, FL.  He graduated with an International Baccalaureate degree near the top of his competitive class.  These academic achievements  earned him scholarship, allowing him to attend the University of Miami (FL) from which he graduated with a neuroscience major and a psychology minor.  He then moved up to New York City to complete medical school and orthopaedic surgical residency training.  He attended New York University School of Medicine in Manhattan, earning his M.D. degree.  Afterwards, he crossed the East River into Brooklyn to complete his orthopaedic surgical residency at the State University of New York at Downstate Medical Center.  His interests in sports medicine influenced him to pursue specialty training at the Ochsner Sports Institute in New Orleans, LA under the tutelage of Drs. Deryk Jones, Scott Montgomery and Misty Suri.  During this time, Dr. Elkhechen also served as assistant team physician for: New Orleans Saints, New Orleans Pelicans, Dillard University Athletics and De La Salle High School Athletics.  He has experience treating athletes in all different sports including football, basketball, baseball, volleyball, soccer, gymnastics and dancing.

After completing his rigorous training, Dr. Elkhechen decided to return to South Florida where he plans to pursue his interests in hip arthroscopy, open shoulder surgery, cartilage preservation, orthobiologics and the care of athletes and elderly alike in his community.  His background in sports medicine has shaped his practice to optimizing the activity level of his patients.  As a result, he is devoted in providing his patients cutting edge technologies to keep them moving and active.  Dr. Elkhechen enjoys playing sports himself, such as golf and tennis, staying fit, fishing and spending time with friends and family.  Dr. Elkhechen has also contributed to the current orthopaedic literature including book chapters on hip arthroscopy and painful total knee replacements.

Dr. Elkhechen’s clinical subspecialty practice involves sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder, elbow, hip, knee and ankle.  Dr. Elkhechen is experienced in microfracture cartilage surgery, cartilage transplantation procedures, hip arthroscopy, elbow arthroscopy, shoulder surgery, arthroscopic rotator cuff surgery, shoulder instability surgery, biceps tendon surgery, shoulder replacements, reverse shoulder replacements, the Latarjet shoulder stabilizing procedure, anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction and multi-ligament knee reconstruction.
